This class is for students who are interested in advancing and refining their pottery skills. We’ll begin with a review of the fundamentals—wedging, centering, and throwing—before moving into techniques for creating thinner walls, lighter and more balanced forms, and more refined finishing techniques. Students will work with porcelain clay to explore its unique qualities while making matched sets, lidded vessels, and experimenting with surface alteration. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening successful throwing habits, improving consistency, and developing a personal aesthetic.
This class is intended for students with some wheel-throwing experience, but highly motivated beginners are welcome.
Class sessions meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and students are encouraged to attend the optional Saturday, instructor-supervised open studio hours. All supplies and equipment are provided. To ensure that everyone has enough and to reduce waste, materials will be shared in set amounts.
